History About Sam

Sam is a creation of Dr. Fuller, his wife Tina, his mother-in-law Ruby, and six year old daughter Savannah.  When the family moved to Rockford in January of 2008, Savannah climbed up in her daddy's lap and having some serious "moving anxieties", asked, "Daddy, will you tell me a story?"  Jeff, tired from a full day of moving and unpacking, could not think a story to tell.  So, he created Sam, the little orange cat with black stripes who moved to Rockford the same day as the Fuller family did.

Sam found a bed behind the Coosa County Courthouse and started making new friends with the other animals in town.  As the months went by, Sam's adventures grew, his circle of friends enlarged and his personality began to shine.  Tina and Granny Ruby got into the story telling, creating new animals and names (one of which just happened to be the nickname of a church member, which we were not aware at that time).

On the days when Jeff, Savannah and Tina traveled, the stories would be told going and coming, and Jeff would hurry to the lap top and write and re-write the stories, storing them for some future time.   In June of 2008, Jeff and Savannah came up with the ideal of publishing the stories.  With the advise and consultation of Tina, who is a journalism major from Troy University, the publishing research began.

Illustrating the books became a big problem with Jeff.  After praying and talking to several people who knew something about the process (Paula McCollum) Jeff sat down and started drawing Sam.  After several sheets of paper and many cups of coffee, he finally decided on the look for Sam.  afterwards the rest of the characters fell into place, along with places and events within the Town of Rockford.  Even though the illustrations are rather childish and lack an air of art expertise, those who have looked them over have given their approval, primarily Savannah, and her opinion carries a great deal of weight with her daddy.  There is also the issue of places, businesses, streets, and landmarks.  Some of these Dr. Fuller has left in the right place, but with others he has taken literary license with the hopes no one will be disappointed.

The decision was made and self-publishing was the route taken.  Using the Internet and research gleaned from countless articles and free resources, Jeff and family, through his personal ministry have taken one the task of publisher, PR, advertisement and distribution and display (and anything else they may have forgotten).

And you now can have the stories in your home or library.
